
Exchange Server 2019 is designed to deliver security, performance and improved administration and management capabilities; attributes our largest on-premises customers expect from Exchange. Exchange Server 2019 installed on Windows Server 2019 Core provides the most secure platform for Exchange.
Exchange 2019 Editions
Exchange Server 2019 is available in two editions it will working only on the x64 platform
- Exchange 2019 Standard; Limited to 5 mounted databases per server.
- Exchange 2019 Enterprise; Can have up to 100 mounted databases per server.
A mounted database is an active database in use or a passive database that’s mounted in recovery. Recovery database isn’t counted towards the limits.
You can’t downgrade from Enterprise to Standard Edition without reinstalling Exchange 2019.
Exchange 2019 Licenses:
Server licenses: Need to be assigned to each Exchange 2019 server as Standard Edition or Enterprise Edition.
Client Access licenses (CALs): Standard CAL and Enterprise CAL. You can mix and match server licenses with CAL licenses.

Associated Server Roles
Exchange Server 2016 has just two server roles:
- Mailbox server role
- Edge Transport server role
Exchange 2019 Hardware Requirements
Processor | Intel 64 or AMD64. Itanium IA64 processors are not supported. |
Memory | Mailbox: 128 GB minimum recommended. Edge Transport: 64 GB minimum recommended. Exchange 2019 now supports up to 256 GB RAM. |
Paging file size | Set the minimum and maximum value to 25% of installed memory. |
Disk space | At least 30 GB free on the drive where Exchange is being installed. At least 200 MB free on the system drive. At least 500 MB free on the drive that has message queue database. |
File system | NTFS for system partition, Exchange binaries, Exchange logging, and transport database files. ReFS for mailbox databases and transaction logs. |
